For several centuries, stripwoven cloth was the prized fabric for clothing throughout western Africa. These textiles are worn as traditional wraps by the women of the Mossi peoples of Burkina Faso. In order to create each panel - 10 cm / 4 in wide - two natural hand-dyed cotton threads are woven together in unique patterns. No two are exactly alike. Once each panel is completed they are then stitched together to form a larger cloth.
